European Union Ambassador to Jordan Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas said Jordan is “strong and resilient” and a partner the EU can rely on in a region facing growing political, security and humanitarian challenges.
Speaking to journalists, Chatzisavas said the visit by a delegation of European Parliament members to Amman reflected Jordan’s importance in the European vision for the region. He noted that the delegation would return to Brussels with “a very good understanding of the challenges facing Jordan,” particularly Palestine, the ongoing Syrian refugee crisis, the war with Iran and regional stability issues.
He said one of the delegation’s key conclusions was that “Jordan is strong and resilient. We can rely on Jordan.”
Chatzisavas said discussions during the visit reflected consistency in Jordan’s foreign policy positions and its vision for regional stability, particularly regarding Palestine and Israeli policies and actions in the occupied Palestinian territory.
He stressed that the European partnership with Jordan goes beyond direct support to include strengthening the Kingdom’s ability to consolidate its stability, saying EU-Jordan relations can help Jordan “strengthen its stability, both economically and from a security perspective.”
He added that the EU also views the Jordan-EU Investment Conference as contributing to “Jordan’s stability and economic and social resilience.”
Jordan as a Regional Hub
The ambassador said the EU wants to strengthen Jordan’s image as “a safe country, open to investment,” with a location that positions it to become a regional hub supporting stability and economic connectivity in the region.
He said attracting greater investment to Jordan requires looking beyond the domestic market and connecting the Kingdom more broadly with its regional surroundings.
He noted that this vision could help reopen trade routes toward Syria, Iraq and the Arabian Peninsula, linking Jordan to wider corridors connecting the region with other markets.
Chatzisavas stressed that regional connectivity is a shared interest for Jordan and the European Union, rather than merely a local commercial project.
Refugee Crisis Is Not Over
The ambassador said the European Parliament delegation’s visit also demonstrated that the Syrian refugee crisis is “far from over” and that Jordan still needs sustained assistance.
He affirmed that the EU will continue supporting the Kingdom as long as the crisis persists, adding that Jordan “did not create this crisis” and therefore should not have to bear its burden alone.
Chatzisavas said Jordan should continue benefiting from international solidarity to meet needs arising from the refugee crisis, while the EU’s objective is also to support Syria’s stability and create the necessary conditions for voluntary returns.
He stressed that the mission of the EU delegation in Jordan is to “strengthen relations between the European Union and Jordan at all levels,” emphasizing that the EU will continue to focus on this partnership despite regional instability.
