The National Cybersecurity Center (NCSC) announced that it will not, at this stage, send any direct messages to the phones of Jordanian citizens. The Center noted that any awareness messages or warnings issued by the NCSC or other official institutions will be published exclusively through official statements from the Public Security Directorate (PSD) and its media spokesperson.
The Center explained that this precautionary measure comes in response to ongoing hacking attempts and cyberattacks targeting the Kingdom. Some of these attacks may impersonate the Center or other official entities via SMS, electronic platforms, or social media to deceive and breach users' devices.
In its statement, the NCSC urged citizens not to engage with any fake warning messages or suspicious links that falsely use the Center’s name or any other official institution, treating such messages as hacking attempts.
Preventive Guidelines to Avoid Cyberattacks:
The Center called on citizens to follow these protective measures to prevent piracy, hacking, or electronic fraud:
Do Not Open Links or Attachments: Avoid clicking on links or opening attachments received via SMS or messaging apps, especially those claiming "security updates," "prizes," or "financial aid."
Protect Sensitive Data: Never share passwords or credit card details through any message or phone call, regardless of how official the contact appears.
Verify Official Channels: Official security circulars are issued exclusively through trusted PSD channels and government platforms with the (.jo) domain.
Use Authorized App Stores: Download and update applications only through official stores (Google Play, App Store).
Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): It is highly recommended to activate 2FA on all social media accounts and banking apps for an extra layer of protection.
Regular Backups: Maintain regular backups of important data on devices not connected to the internet.
The National Cybersecurity Center concluded by emphasizing that public awareness and adherence to these guidelines are the cornerstones of strengthening national cybersecurity.
