During a field visit on Thursday to the outpatient clinics at Princess Basma Teaching Hospital in Irbid Governorate, Minister of Health Dr. Ibrahim Al-Badoor announced the introduction of evening specialized clinics across several high-demand specialties. The move follows the successful implementation of the model at Zarqa Government Hospital and aims to reduce waiting times for patients referred from primary healthcare centers.

Dr. Al-Badoor emphasized that this step comes in implementation of directives from Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan to intensify field inspections, monitor public services, and enhance their quality—particularly within the healthcare sector. He stressed that the Ministry of Health is continuing its plans to upgrade health services across all governorates, ensuring patients receive timely and high-quality care.
The Minister explained that starting Sunday, July 26, 2026, the Ministry will roll out a new system for receiving newly referred patients from primary health centers at Princess Basma Hospital's outpatient department. This mechanism aims to expedite diagnosis, initiate timely treatment, and improve the overall patient experience.
Dr. Al-Badoor noted that the decision was taken following an on-site assessment of clinic operations and patient waiting times, which highlighted the need to expand clinic capacity. Consequently, he instructed hospital management to set up weekly evening specialized clinics based on the positive results achieved at Zarqa Government Hospital, where the model successfully streamlined workflows and reduced waiting lists.
He added that following an evaluation of overcrowded clinics with extended appointment dates, the decision was made to double capacity in selected departments by establishing 8 weekly evening clinics. These will cover neurosurgery, pediatric neurology, orthopedic surgery, and internal medicine, with two clinic sessions allocated per specialty to accommodate newly referred patients from health centers.
For his part, the Director of Princess Basma Hospital, Dr. Waleed Al-Halabi, confirmed that the hospital has already initiated the necessary technical and administrative arrangements to implement the new system. He explained that the plan relies on operating weekly evening clinics for each specified specialty starting at 1:30 PM, thereby boosting outpatient capacity and accelerating service delivery for visitors.
Dr. Al-Halabi added that implementing this mechanism will significantly reduce waiting times for patients referred from primary care centers to specialized clinics—which previously stretched up to several months in certain specialties—positively reflecting on early diagnosis, prompt treatment, and the overall quality of healthcare provided.
