Spain didn't wait long to reward Luis de la Fuente for the historic achievement he secured with the national team, after the Spanish Football Federation decided to extend the veteran coach's contract through 2032, a step confirming its commitment to the project he has led for years.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation's board, chaired by Rafael Louzán, unanimously approved the extension of De la Fuente's contract, during a meeting held at the Football City in Las Rozas, allowing the coach to continue leading the Spanish national team for additional years.
The decision comes after De la Fuente's success in leading Spain to the 2026 World Cup title, cementing his standing as one of the most prominent coaches in the history of the Spanish national team.
Rafael Louzán affirmed that renewing De la Fuente's contract comes within the federation's desire to maintain stability and give the sporting project led by the coach enough time to continue its successes.
Louzán told the board: "We're aiming for a project built on stability and trust," noting that the decision reflects the federation's confidence in De la Fuente and the project he leads, which extends across years of competitions and major tournaments.
He added that De la Fuente has become "the most decorated coach in the national team's history," affirming that the years he has spent within the federation make him deserving of continuing his work for a long period.
The new contract extends to cover major milestones in the Spanish national team's future, most notably the 2028 European Championship, and the 2030 World Cup, which Spain will host in partnership with Portugal, Morocco, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina, alongside Euro 2032.
The agreement is set to be officially presented during an event held at the Football City, with De la Fuente and a number of representatives of Spanish football in attendance, to lay out the broad outlines of the next phase in the world champions' journey.
De la Fuente will begin his new mission with the qualifiers for Euro 2028, alongside the Spanish national team's participation in the upcoming edition of the UEFA Nations League.
The national team is expected to play its first matches in September and October against England, Croatia, and Czechia, at the start of a new phase in which the world champions look to continue their European and global dominance.
