In a statement on Wednesday evening, the association said: “Based on the national team’s modest performance and underwhelming results in the double qualifiers, the JFA’s Executive Committee met today, chaired by HRH Prince Ali, and decided to accept the resignation of Vital Borkelmans and his assistant Stephan Van Der Heyden.”

The statement added:  “Adnan Ahmad has been appointed coach of the first-division national team, to lead it into the next stage, starting with the national team’s match against Sudan on June 21, as part of the 2021 Arab Cup qualifiers.”
