The Egyptian Football Association announced on Monday that it had received notification from FIFA regarding sanctions imposed on Egypt national team head coach Hossam Hassan, team director Ibrahim Hassan and player Mostafa Abdel Raouf, known as Ziko, over incidents following Egypt’s round-of-16 match against Argentina at the 2026 World Cup.

In a statement, the Egyptian FA said FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee had suspended the Hassan brothers for three matches each, while Ziko received a five-match suspension.
The Egyptian FA confirmed that it had submitted an urgent petition to FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee, requesting detailed explanations and the grounds for the decisions so it could assess the legal position and determine whether to appeal in accordance with the applicable regulations.
FIFA had initiated disciplinary proceedings against the three in August following comments they made after Egypt’s 3–2 defeat to Argentina, in which they accused the match referee of deliberately causing Egypt to lose.
Under the sanctions, Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan will miss Egypt’s next three matches against Malawi and Angola in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Ziko will miss the national team’s remaining four qualifying matches, as well as one additional match.
