The spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate said that the Cybercrime Unit is warning the public against purchasing gold through advertisements posted on social media platforms.

The spokesperson confirmed that, in recent days, the unit has handled a number of fraud complaints related to buying gold via social media pages. These complaints included cases where buyers purchased gold and transferred money to scammers who then disappeared without sending the agreed-upon gold items. In other cases, the scammer sent the items as agreed, only for the buyer to discover after inspection that the metal was counterfeit, not gold, or mixed with other metals such as iron or copper.
The spokesperson urged everyone not to deal with such pages and, if they wish to purchase gold, to go to licensed shops, stressing that gold purchases should only be made from approved, licensed, and official outlets.
