A total of 99 patents were registered from the beginning of the year until the end of last October, three of which were local.
According to data from the Industrial Property Protection Directorate at the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply, the number of registered trademarks reached 3,821 by the end of October, while the total number of renewed trademarks during the same period amounted to 5,575.

The data also showed that the directorate renewed 504 patents, granted 13 trademark usage licenses, approved 1,038 changes of name and address for industrial property rights, and processed 1,821 ownership transfers.
Last year, the number of registered trademarks reached 5,687, and the number of renewed trademarks 6,245, while 111 patents were registered, including 8 local ones.
According to the law, a patent is any creative idea developed by an inventor in any field of technology, related to a product, a manufacturing process, or both, and which solves a specific problem in any such field.
Patent registration includes all procedures related to patent applications submitted to the office—from the stage where inventors are guided on how to file an application, to the issuance of the final patent certificate.
These procedures involve a set of technical and formal steps related to examining the application to ensure it meets all legal requirements, in addition to other processes related to patent applications carried out to meet the needs of third parties (the public excluding applicants, agents, and inventors), such as publication in the Official Gazette or file inspection procedures.
