On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the newly imposed reciprocal tariffs officially took effect at midnight.
Through his "Truth Social" platform, Trump stated that the tariffs had gone into force at midnight, estimating that they would inject “billions of dollars” into the U.S. economy—most of it, he claimed, coming from countries that have "exploited trade relations with the United States for years."

He wrote: “It’s midnight! Billions of dollars in tariffs are now flowing into the United States of America!”
On August 1, Trump signed an executive order imposing tariffs ranging from 15% to 41% on more than 60 countries, including the European Union.
The highest tariffs were imposed on countries such as Syria (41%), Laos (40%), Myanmar (40%), Switzerland (39%), Iraq (35%), and Serbia (35%).
