UNRWA: Suffering Continues in Gaza Despite Ceasefire
The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, confirmed that the suffering of the population in Gaza persists despite the ceasefire, which he described as "merely formal." He noted that civilians are still being killed and continue to suffer from shortages of water and food, alongside the spread of diseases.اضافة اعلان

In a press conference on Tuesday, Lazzarini explained that UNRWA remains the only entity capable of providing large-scale services in the Gaza Strip, as there is no alternative organization to fulfill its mandates. He also drew attention to what he termed a "silent war" in the West Bank, citing settler attacks and demolition operations that have also targeted UNRWA facilities in East Jerusalem.

Lazzarini emphasized that UNRWA is facing a severe funding crisis despite the renewal of its mandate for three years. He warned that the agency might become unable to continue its operations without urgent financial support. Furthermore, he cautioned that targeting UNRWA could set a dangerous precedent that might eventually affect other United Nations agencies.
