Omar told Agence France-Presse that the talks held in Damascus on Monday regarding the implementation mechanism of the agreement “completely collapsed,” adding that the Syrian authorities’ only demand is the “unconditional surrender” of Kurdish forces.

On Sunday, Al-Shar’ announced after meeting with U.S. envoy Tom Brake that an agreement had been reached with the Kurds, which included a ceasefire between the two sides after about two weeks of escalation, and a comprehensive integration of the Autonomous Administration’s institutions within the state framework.

Abdi later stated that he had agreed to the deal to halt a war that was “imposed” on them.
