Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei called on Muslim countries in the region on Sunday to unite against the United States and Israel, six months after the start of the war in the Middle East.

In a written message carried by his official website, Khamenei said that “the solution to the problems of the Muslim nation lies in unity, friendship and cooperation for the sake of good and righteousness.”
Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared publicly since being elected in March to succeed his father, Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the first US-Israeli strikes on Tehran on February 28. Iranian authorities have not released any video or audio recording of the new supreme leader, instead issuing written statements in his name, according to Agence France-Presse.
“Anyone, regardless of their position, who takes any action that causes division among Muslims and ignites conflict within the Muslim community, whether knowingly or unknowingly, intentionally or unintentionally, has served the objectives of the enemies of Islam,” he said.
During the war, Iran responded to US strikes against its territory by launching missile and drone attacks against Arab countries allied with Washington. Tehran said the attacks targeted military bases used by the United States in the conflict, although the strikes also hit civilian facilities and sites.
The Iranian supreme leader renewed his call for officials and the Iranian people to set aside their differences and unite in confronting the United States and Israel.
“I repeat my recommendation to all members of the public: under no circumstances should they allow any divisions to emerge among them,” he said.
In a message issued Friday, Khamenei had warned that “any action that comes at the expense of social cohesion and harms it is prohibited.”
He also called for gradually reducing Iran’s reliance on the US dollar and strengthening domestic production, saying this would enable the Islamic Republic to achieve economic growth after months of a US naval blockade and years of sanctions.
