Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani on Thursday instructed the Minister of Interior to be present on-site at the location of the fire in Kut and to immediately investigate the causes and circumstances surrounding the incident. As part of the government's continued follow-up on the consequences of the tragic event, Al-Sudani also directed the deployment of a fully equipped medical team to support emergency efforts and treat the injured.

The Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, extending his sympathy and wishing them patience and solace.

A medical source told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the death toll from the fire has risen to 63, with 40 others injured.

Wasit Governor Mohammed Jamil Al-Mayyahi declared a three-day mourning period on Thursday in honor of the victims of the "Hypermarket" fire tragedy in central Kut, which resulted in a significant number of casualties.

He added that the relevant authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire and that preliminary results will be announced to the public within 48 hours, with full transparency.

The governor stressed that the local government in Wasit is closely monitoring public safety measures in commercial buildings and will take firm action against those found negligent. He noted that the tragedy was a major shock to the people of the province and necessitates a serious review of all safety and oversight protocols.
