Iran’s Fars News Agency reported that an MQ-1 unmanned aerial vehicle was destroyed over the Strait of Hormuz.
The agency, citing Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said it had detected a US military MQ-1 drone shortly before it was destroyed by an advanced air defense system operated by the IRGC Aerospace Force over the Strait of Hormuz.

Fars added that the MQ-1 model had been retired from service by the U.S. Navy and Air Force several years ago and replaced by MQ-9 drones.
The agency said that after a large number of MQ-9 drones were destroyed, the United States had been forced to resume using MQ-1 drones.
