Rainfall is expected to be heavy at times in some areas, accompanied by lightning, thunder, and hail, which may lead to flash floods and rising water levels in valleys and low-lying areas, including the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. Winds will be moderate southwesterly, occasionally becoming active and causing dust in desert areas.

In its report, the Jordan Meteorological Department warned of the risk of flash floods and rising water levels in valleys and low-lying areas, including the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley. It also warned of thunderstorms, reduced horizontal visibility due to fog and low-lying clouds over mountainous areas and parts of the plains, as well as occasional dust-induced visibility issues in desert regions.

Temperatures in East Amman today will range between 11°C and 9°C, in West Amman between 9°C and 7°C, in the northern highlands between 7°C and 5°C, in the Sharah highlands between 6°C and 4°C, in the desert regions between 14°C and 5°C, in the plains between 11°C and 8°C, in the northern Jordan Valley between 20°C and 13°C, in the southern Jordan Valley between 23°C and 14°C, at the Dead Sea between 22°C and 13°C, and in Aqaba between 22°C and 13°C.

According to the report, Friday’s weather will be cold and partly to mostly cloudy, with intermittent showers expected—God willing—in the western parts of the Kingdom and limited areas in the east. Some showers may be briefly heavy during the early morning in isolated parts of the western and central regions. By the evening and night, the chances of rain gradually diminish, with moderate westerly winds occasionally becoming active.

On Saturday, temperatures will rise slightly, but the weather will remain cold in most areas and mild in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Low-altitude clouds will appear, with a chance of light and scattered morning showers. Winds will be moderate northwesterly, picking up at times.

Another slight rise in temperatures is expected on Sunday. The weather will be relatively cold in most areas and mild in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba, with some clouds at various altitudes. Winds will be moderate easterly.

Maximum Emergency Level: “Water Alert”

The Greater Amman Municipality declared a “maximum water emergency” to deal with the weather depression affecting Jordan.

The municipality affirmed the readiness of its field teams to respond to any reports received by the Tla’ Al-Ali Emergency Room, urging citizens to contact the unified call center numbers (102 and 117180) if they observe any issues.

It urged citizens to exercise caution by staying away from valley streams and low-lying areas, and to avoid connecting rooftop drainage pipes to the sewage network to prevent flooding in streets. It also advised against the random disposal of waste, which can block rainwater drainage lines.

The municipality emphasized the importance of checking submersible pumps in basements and commercial shops located below street level, and urged merchants to take preventive measures when storing goods in warehouses and basement levels.

Contractors and owners of construction projects were also urged to secure construction materials to prevent them from being washed away and blocking rainwater drainage lines.
