Video-sharing platform YouTube has announced that it will allow content creators in the United States to add links to products listed on Amazon.com and earn a share of sales generated through those links.

The platform said creators can add Amazon product links to short-form and long-form videos, as well as livestreams.
Technology website TechCrunch noted that while YouTube already operates an affiliate shopping program in partnership with retailers, integrating Amazon’s vast product catalog will allow creators to recommend a wide range of products to their viewers through a built-in integration. By adding Amazon to the affiliate marketing program, creators will no longer need to place affiliate links in video descriptions and wait for viewers to copy and use them when purchasing a product.
At the same time, YouTube said Amazon will provide a carefully curated catalog of the most sought-after and popular products that creators can feature in their videos. If a creator cannot find a specific product they want to link to, they can request that it be added by contacting YouTube’s technical support team.
The new feature also offers an option to automatically add links. Once enabled, YouTube’s systems can automatically review recently uploaded videos to identify suitable Amazon products and add relevant product links.
YouTube said creators will not have access to detailed information about specific products or individual videos in their analytics. Instead, they will be able to view their total daily earnings through YouTube Studio. If a viewer returns a product, the corresponding commission will be deducted from the creator’s balance.
Although only eligible creators in the United States can currently add Amazon product links, the links will be visible to viewers worldwide. YouTube explained that a linked product may automatically be matched with a trusted local retailer offering it at a discounted price, allowing creators to earn commissions from eligible international purchases. If no local retailer is available, viewers will be directed to Amazon’s U.S. website, with a commission credited if the purchase is completed there.
