Qualcomm has unveiled the chips that will power the next generation of flagship Android smartphones. As it did last year, the company introduced two flagship processors: the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the higher-performance Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.اضافة اعلان

The new Extreme version includes all the capabilities of the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while adding stronger performance in artificial intelligence, graphics, video, and overall system performance.

5GHz Speeds Come to Smartphones
The new platform is powered by Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU. The latest generation reaches speeds of up to 5GHz on its main cores, while performance cores can reach 4GHz. It also features 16MB of flexible Oryon cache.

Qualcomm describes the chip as the world’s first mobile processor to reach 5GHz. Just a few years ago, smartphone processors reaching 3GHz were considered a major advancement. Today, their speeds are approaching those offered by desktop processors.

Qualcomm is not focusing only on raw processing power, as artificial intelligence is a major part of the new generation. The company redesigned its Hexagon Neural Processing Unit and added a new accelerator, with a design that allows AI agents to understand users’ personal context across their devices, anticipate their needs, and adapt over time.

Among the features benefiting from these improvements are new image-editing capabilities that work without requiring users to enter instructions first. The Extreme version goes further by supporting mixture-of-experts models with more than 30 billion parameters, along with a 50% increase in shared memory dedicated to the NPU.

Extreme Version Focuses on Gaming
One of the main differences between the Extreme and standard versions is the graphics processor. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 adds dedicated Adreno matrix cores for AI, 18MB of high-performance memory, and Adreno Neural Fusion technology, which uses AI to improve graphics resolution and generate additional frames.

Qualcomm says Neural Fusion can reduce power consumption by 40% in its internal test of the game Dragon Age, while maintaining high frame rates and image quality.

The camera capabilities are also advanced. The Extreme platform supports 8K video recording at 60 frames per second, as well as 4K slow-motion video at 240 frames per second. Qualcomm also says the platform delivers four times greater video-processing capability and adds support for APV technology designed for advanced video-production workflows.

Both chips use Qualcomm’s X105 5G modem and FastConnect 8800 connectivity platform. Qualcomm has already begun describing the new modem as a step toward sixth-generation networks.

Key Differences Between the Two Chips
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 features an Oryon CPU reaching up to 5GHz, AI agents capable of understanding context, a new AI accelerator, a next-generation Adreno GPU, and technologies for intelligent pixel control, image stabilization, and color processing. It also includes the X105 5G modem and FastConnect 8800 platform.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 adds further improvements in overall system performance, support for mixture-of-experts models exceeding 30 billion parameters, a 50% increase in shared AI memory, dedicated AI matrix cores, Neural Fusion technology, and 18MB of high-performance graphics memory.

It also adds advanced imaging capabilities, including 8K video recording at 60 frames per second, 4K slow-motion recording at 240 frames per second, and support for professional video technologies.
