YouTube is testing a new feature designed to address the clutter that many users complain about on the platform’s home page, after years of relying heavily on recommendation algorithms that often misinterpret viewer interests.

The experimental feature is called “Your Custom Feed.”
This new tool gives users far greater control over the content shown to them, after long-standing criticism that YouTube’s algorithm frequently misunderstands viewer intent.
For example, watching just a few Disney-related videos might cause the home page to become flooded with similar content—even if the user is not truly interested in that type of video—according to a report by TechCrunch.
In the ongoing test, participants will see a “Your Custom Feed” tab next to the “Home” button on the main interface.
Users can simply enter topics or interests they want to see more of, such as cooking, travel, or gaming.
After users type in these preferences, YouTube will begin reshaping the content displayed based on these selections.
The new feature gives users an active role in personalizing the recommendation algorithm, rather than relying on traditional methods like selecting “Not interested” or “Don’t recommend this channel,” which usually take a long time to affect the system.
YouTube’s move also mirrors actions by its competitors. Threads is testing tools to give users more control over its algorithm, while X is working on a feature that allows users to involve its AI bot “Grok” in customizing their feed.
Although the success of YouTube’s new feature is still in the testing phase, giving users greater power in shaping what they see could mark a major shift in how the platform operates in the near future.
