Physical health is of course linked with mental as well as spiritual health.

Looking after yourself physically is fundamental. It is the first and most crucial step when it comes to holistic wellness.

Physical wellness plays a crucial role in day-to-day life. If your body is healthy, you will be able to perform to the best of your ability in multiple aspects of your life.

This includes academic and/or professional performance. Physical wellness does not just mean exercise.

You must also find healthy ways to manage your stress, make sure your body is getting enough rest, and provide your body with its needed daily nutrients.

For many of us, getting enough sleep is difficult. Many university students stay up late to finish studying for an exam or writing a paper.

Doing so is extremely counterproductive. Because your body needs a set amount of sleep, losing any of that sleep will result in your body later needing to make up for it.

Have you ever slept for a really long period of time after a hard stressful week? That is just your body trying to make up for what it lost. Sleep, stress, and physical activity are all connected.  If you are physically active, you will reduce your stress level and will probably sleep better as well.

Being physically active also encourages you to eat healthy, providing your body with the nutrients it needs to thrive.

So, as you can see, physical wellness is a large, interconnected web. When you work on one aspect, the rest just falls into place effortlessly.

There are five crucial aspects to physical wellness. The aspects are sleep, nutrition, exercise, hygiene, and relaxation.

1- Sleep

As mentioned, getting enough sleep is crucial for productivity. Everyone knows that they need 8 hours of sleep to stay healthy and alert.

However, what many people do not know is that maintaining a regular sleep cycle is just as important.

Your body craves regular routine. If you are sleep deprived, it can often leads to problems concentrating, loss of motivation, and decreased productivity.

Constant disruption to your sleep cycle can lead to several negative symptoms such as extreme fatigue, sluggishness, memory issues, emotional instability, and even an increase in sicknesses through a weakened immune system.

Sleep deficiency will not only leave you feeling tired but can increase your risk of many health problems.

These include obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke. As you can see, a lack of sleep can be extremely harmful in both the short and long term.

2- Nutrition

Consistency is also important when it comes to nutrition. On top of that, foods such as vegetables, fruits, lean meats, and whole grains will give your body the nutrients that it needs to function throughout the day.

It also plays a role in balancing your mental health and emotional well-being. Eating too much or too little both have negative consequences on your metabolism and can disrupt your physical and emotional wellness.

Choosing the right foods will also improve your sleep as well as your mood.
Alongside healthy foods, keeping hydrated is also crucial for health. Many people do not drink as much water as they need or substitute water with beverages like tea or coffee.

Those beverages do not provide your body with the hydration that it needs. Health experts recommend drinking up to 2 liters of water each day.

3- Exercise

For many, the idea of exercise is usually associated with negative feelings. It becomes easy to lose motivation and come up with a million reasons not to get active.

We all know staying home and watching our favorite show will always beat a trip to the gym.

However, physical activity does not mean it has to be draining, tiring, or a chore.

While everyone knows the long-term benefits of exercise, many struggle to make it a part of their daily life. Daily exercise could mean just a 30-minute walk in the evening with a family member or friend. You can later increase the duration of your walk once you start to feel it becoming repetitive.

The most important thing is to find an activity that you like and to never force yourself to do any exercise that you do not genuinely enjoy. This will cause a rapid loss of motivation.

Finding the right exercise for you can lead to a healthy sleep and nutrition cycle as well.
This will greatly improve your overall physical wellness.

There are many places around Jordan that provide you with different activities like the Amman Cycling Club and Climbat Jordan which will help make daily exercise more fun if you hate the idea of going to the gym.

4- Hygiene

Hygiene is defined as any action taken to maintain health and prevent disease.

With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic over the last couple of years, better hygiene has been a huge focus.

Hygiene can include showering, washing your hands regularly, brushing your teeth daily, and flossing.

This adds routine and can effectively boost your mood and give you the right mindset to start your day.

For anyone struggling to keep a healthy routine, starting your day this way will give you a slight push in the right direction.

Hygiene also means regular visits to your doctor for check-ups. Regularly checking on your teeth and eyes.

Having any problems even if they are minor can prevent you from going about your day in an inefficient and unproductive manner.

While most people regularly shower and brush their teeth, many opt out of check-up appointments as they see them as a waste of time.

Ignoring your health is a great way to neglect your physical wellness, which is arguably the most important aspect of wellness.

5-Relaxation

Relaxation, while commonly thought of as a mental exercise, can be highly beneficial to your physical health.

Stress and physical exertion can cause tension in muscles as well as constant headaches and back pain. These pains often prevent you from sticking with daily exercises.

While it is important to sleep regularly, eat healthy, and exercise, taking time off to relax can be just what you need to boost your day.

That short period of time dedicated to relaxation can increase your overall productivity.

Relaxation can include something like getting a massage, reading a book, or playing your favorite video game, basically any activity that lets you unwind and releases some tension.
