Intense Cold Front to Sweep Kingdom with Heavy Rain, Strong Winds

Amman – A significant drop in temperatures is expected across Jordan on Wednesday as the Kingdom comes under the influence of a very cold and moist air mass accompanying a low-pressure system.اضافة اعلان

The weather will be cold and partly cloudy, gradually turning overcast, with rain forecast in the northern and central regions, extending to most areas by late afternoon. Heavy downpours are expected at times, particularly in western areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and occasional hail.

The intense rainfall may lead to flash floods and rising water levels in valleys and low-lying areas, including the Dead Sea region. Winds will be strong and westerly, reaching speeds of up to 50 km/h, stirring dust in desert areas.

By evening and overnight, wind speeds will intensify further, turning into gale-force winds that could exceed 80 km/h in some areas.

The Jordan Meteorological Department has issued warnings about potential flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas due to heavy rain, particularly in western part of the Kingdom and the Dead Sea region. It also cautioned against strong winds and their associated gusts, reduced visibility due to blowing dust especially in desert regions and low visibility caused by low-hanging clouds over high-altitude areas.

Additionally, motorists are advised to exercise caution on wet roads and secure loose objects that could be displaced by the strong winds.

The country will remain under the influence of the cold air mass on Thursday, with temperatures continuing to drop. The weather will be extremely cold, cloudy, and rainy across most regions, with heavy rainfall expected in the early morning, raising the risk of flash floods.

Snow mixed with rain may fall over high-altitude areas exceeding 1,200 meters above sea level, with possible light accumulation in the southern highlands of the Sharah region.

Strong winds, with gusts exceeding 80 km/h, will persist in some areas, kicking up dust in desert regions. However, by evening, precipitation will weaken, and wind speeds will gradually subside.

On Friday, the weather will be partly cloudy and bitterly cold in most areas, with a slight chance of scattered light showers in parts of western areas. Northwesterly winds will be moderate, occasionally becoming active.

Saturday’s weather will remain cold across most regions, while the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba will experience relatively cooler conditions. Low-altitude clouds will appear, with moderate northwesterly winds prevailing.

The expected maximum and minimum temperatures on Wednesday are as follows: Eastern Amman 12-4C, Western Amman 10-2C, northern highlands 9-3C, Sharah Mountains 8-2C, desert regions 14-2C, plains 11-4C, northern Jordan Valley 18-7C, southern Jordan Valley 21-10C, Dead Sea 20-11C, and Aqaba 22-10C.
