Designs for gas supply project to Mafraq Development Zone launched
Amman -Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has begun drafting the initial designs for the project to supply natural gas to Mafraq Development Zone (MDZ). The designs will feature in the tender documents to appoint a contractor to implement the project and identify the consulting company that will supervise the construction works, according to a ministry statement. Stakeholders in the Ministry's Oil and Natural Gas Directorate visited the site to view the area and determine the technical aspects and initial path for the new project. The statement said the enterprise comes within the government's efforts to reduce energy costs on the Kingdom's industrial sector within the framework of the Economic Modernization Vision. Under this bid, industrial clusters Muwaqqar, Ma'an, and MDZ will receive natural gas supplies as one of the vision's priorities. Estimates forecast the Kingdom's industrial estates will be supplied with natural gas by 2027. This plan would contribute to enhance the sector's sustainability and reduce the energy-related financial burdens due to the low cost of using natural gas by 30%, compared to heavy fuel, and 55%, against petroleum gas, respectively.
