Water and Irrigation Minister Mohammad Al-Najjar said that the government is fully aware of the magnitude of the challenges that the water sector faces, the climate instability, and the scarcity of potable water sources, which are declining year after year as a result of the shrinking rainy seasons.

The water sector, he said, has an ambitious plan to reduce water loss, following updates to the national strategy, with the goal of decreasing loss by 1–2 percent annually, to reach 25 percent by 2040.

The funding provided by USAID through this agreement, $22.6 million, will be combined with a contribution of $2.4 million from Miyahuna to work toward achieving the project objectives over the next four years.
