The minister of industry trade, and supply updated the Council of Ministers on the availability of staple foods and the rates of domestic production and consumption.

The prime minister emphasized the need to take measures to achieve food security, by maintaining strategic food stocks for a safe and sufficient period of time in light of the global challenges.

Two weeks ago, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply Dana Al-Zu’bi said Jordan’s stock of grain reached 1.6 million tonnes, and will further increase to 2.35 million tonnes in 2023, once storage is expanded with the completion of new silos across the Kingdom.

Experts urged the government to support farmers to achieve self-reliance in agriculture, but many admit that there are obstacles, which include water scarcity and the availability of fodder at affordable prices.
