The Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply announced that the Kingdom’s wheat stock covers consumption for ten months, and barley for eight months. Meanwhile, the ministry continues to issue tenders to purchase additional quantities and import from several countries, notably Romania, Bulgaria, and Russia.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Yanal Al-Barmawi, told the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) on Wednesday that work is underway to establish silos in Al-Qatraneh with a storage capacity of 600,000 tons, bringing the total storage capacity to 2.31 million tons by the end of this year.
According to Al-Barmawi, the capacity of vertical silos is 710,000 tons, while the horizontal silos’ capacity is one million tons.
He confirmed that the ministry continuously works to maintain the Kingdom’s strategic stockpile and to hedge the largest possible quantities, noting that increasing storage capacity will enable the Kingdom to maintain wheat stock for more than 16 months.
He also affirmed that supply chains are operating normally and regularly, with continuous monitoring to meet the market’s needs for various goods, especially food supplies imported from different sources, alongside local food production.
