Member countries of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) called for increased support for countries facing short-term financing challenges caused by the adverse effects of wars and rising energy prices.

In a statement issued by the chair of the International Monetary and Financial Committee following a meeting in Bangkok, the committee said economic risks remained tilted to the downside.
“Escalating conflicts and trade tensions could further disrupt vital trade routes, intensify pressures on commodity prices, including refined energy products, and worsen food and energy security,” said Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan, who chairs the International Monetary and Financial Committee.
