Asian stock markets showed a mixed performance on Thursday. Japan’s Nikkei average rose 1.2 percent to close at 42,456.16 points, after ending Wednesday’s session at its lowest closing level since August 8.

The broader Topix index posted a more modest gain of 0.8 percent, closing at 3,073.20 points.
Meanwhile, Chinese stocks declined as investors took profits from recent gains in technology shares following media reports of possible regulatory restrictions on speculation, and after the conclusion of a politically symbolic military parade in Beijing.
The Shanghai Composite Index, which last week hit its highest level in a decade, dropped around 2 percent, heading for its worst daily performance in nearly five months. The CSI 300 index of blue-chip stocks also fell 2.5 percent.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index slipped more than 1 percent, weighed down by tech losses, while South Korea’s Kosdaq index closed at 805.42, up 8.61 points.
The MSCI Asia-Pacific index rose 0.7 percent.
