Aqaba Governorate on Tuesday received its first liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered vessel, in a move aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
Hussein Al-Safadi, CEO of the Aqaba Development Corporation, told Al-Mamlaka that receiving the vessel aligns with a strategic direction reflecting a shift toward lowering carbon emissions.

“We have launched our strategy at Aqaba Development Corporation, and today we are welcoming the first LNG-powered vessel. This is part of our plan to achieve a 70% reduction in carbon emissions at the container terminal by 2030,” Al-Safadi said.
When asked about the possibility of establishing a unit to supply ships with LNG while docked in Aqaba, Al-Safadi described the matter as highly important, emphasizing the readiness of the container terminal’s infrastructure to receive such vessels.
He added, “Today, the container terminal has achieved full infrastructure readiness to accommodate vessels of this kind. This marks the beginning of encouraging global shipping companies to use Aqaba Port due to the availability of these services.”
