Trump: Washington Unaware of Israeli Attack on Iranian Energy Facility
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States had no prior knowledge of the Israeli attack targeting an energy facility inside Iran. At the same time, he emphasized that his country does not want to allow this level of violence and destruction to continue in the region.
Speaking early Thursday morning, Trump warned that any new targeting of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facilities in Qatar would be met with a decisive response, stressing that he "will not hesitate" to take action if it happens again.
He added that the United States might proceed to "completely blow up the South Pars gas field" should Iran decide to attack Qatar.
Trump confirmed that Qatar was "in no way" involved in the attack, noting that Israel would not launch any additional strikes related to the South Pars field, which he described as critically important.
Context of the Escalation
The Qatari Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that an Iranian missile attack damaged a major gas facility on Qatar's northern coast. In a statement on its website, the ministry reported: "The State of Qatar was subjected to a ballistic missile attack from Iran targeting Ras Laffan Industrial City, resulting in damages."
Qatar had stated overnight that attacks on this facility constitute a "direct threat" to its national security.
