U.S. President Donald Trump is seriously considering the withdrawal of the United States from NATO, according to reports by the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph. Trump reportedly views the alliance as having failed to support military action against Iran.

The newspaper noted that Trump described the alliance as a "paper tiger," quoting him as saying that the issue of the U.S. withdrawing from the defense pact has "passed the stage of reconsideration." He added that he has long held doubts regarding NATO's credibility.
When asked if he would reconsider U.S. membership in the alliance following the war, Trump replied: "Yes, I would say it’s passed the stage of reconsideration."
He further added: "I’ve never been sold on NATO. I’ve always known it was a paper tiger, and by the way, [Russian President Vladimir] Putin knows that too."
