Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Friday that the success of talks with the United States aimed at ending the war depends on conducting them without “pressure or threats.”

Speaking at the Commonwealth of Independent States summit in Turkmenistan, Pezeshkian said dialogue could only have meaning and a chance of success if it was based on mutual respect and reciprocal commitments, and was free of pressure and threats.

Pezeshkian also stressed that Iran would not abandon the negotiating table, saying Tehran is currently reviewing proposals exchanged through mediators in preparation for finalizing them.

Iran presented a “seven-day plan” through mediators late last September aimed at de-escalation and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, paving the way for the resumption of negotiations with the United States. Washington did not agree to the plan.

Iran and the United States have exchanged proposals in recent weeks aimed at ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, but have yet to reach an agreement to end the confrontation.
