Preliminary vessel-tracking data released Tuesday showed little change in the number of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday compared with Saturday and Sunday, with the figure remaining at around five vessels. This was well below the 10-day average of approximately 14 vessels.
Kpler data showed that four of the vessels entered the strait, while one exited.
Ships transiting the strait with their automatic identification system (AIS) transponders switched off are not included in the figures.
The data showed that none of the vessels passing through the waterway on Monday were liquid tankers.
Among the vessels entering the strait was a small empty gas carrier that arrived via the Iranian route. The other three were loaded dry bulk carriers.
Meanwhile, Kpler data showed that vessel traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait reached a three-day high of 27 ships, with 14 vessels entering and 13 leaving.
Five of the 27 transits involved Aframax or Suezmax crude oil tankers.
None of the vessels entering or leaving the waterway were very large crude carriers (VLCCs) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency said late Monday that a vessel was struck by three “unspecified projectiles” while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire onboard.
UKMTO said on X that a tanker “was hit by three unspecified projectiles while transiting out of the Strait of Hormuz. No casualties or environmental damage were reported.” The incident occurred about 17 nautical miles (31 kilometers) east of Oman’s Khasab.
