On the occasion of World Teachers' Day 2026, UNESCO, UNICEF, UNRWA and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have joined their voices to those of teachers, learners, families and communities across Jordan to celebrate teachers and recognise their central contribution to the country's development and future.اضافة اعلان

This year's theme - "Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Championing the Teaching Profession, Elevating Its Status, and Shaping Our Future" - coincides with the sixtieth anniversary of the ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. That recommendation continues to guide global efforts to strengthen the teaching profession and raise the quality of education for all, through respect for labour rights, social dialogue, equal pay and decent working conditions.

Teachers are the cornerstone of every successful education system. They motivate learning, nurture creativity, develop critical thinking, and help build more inclusive, resilient and prosperous societies.

In Jordan, teachers have demonstrated exceptional dedication in supporting the learning and well-being of all children and young people, including refugees and those most at risk. Their commitment remains central to efforts to improve the quality of education and expand opportunities for every learner.

Supporting that dedication requires ensuring that teachers have the time, practical tools and sustained professional support they need to help every child build strong foundational skills, recover lost learning, and prepare for further education, work and adulthood. This includes equipping teachers with the capacity to identify learning difficulties early and to adapt their teaching methods to individual needs, so that every child - including children with disabilities - can learn and develop in a safe and inclusive classroom. Jordan continues to invest in strengthening the teaching profession through teacher preparation, ongoing professional development and educational leadership.

International data indicate that nearly all primary school teachers in Jordan have received professional training. Recent initiatives have provided learning and professional development opportunities to more than 3,250 education workers, more than 260 teachers in vocational education and training, and more than 3,500 teachers across 161 UNRWA schools throughout the country.

These efforts contribute to expanding opportunity, inclusion and long-term resilience for all children and young people in Jordan, including Palestinian refugees, by enabling teachers to respond to evolving educational needs and to apply innovative, inclusive teaching practices. Building on this progress, Jordan's recently launched National Education Strategic Plan 2026-2030 places teacher development, education quality, AI-supported digital readiness, inclusion and the resilience of the education system at the heart of the country's education reform agenda, recognising that empowered and well-supported teachers are essential to achieving quality, inclusive and future-ready education for all.

Standing with teachers - women and men alike - means acknowledging the challenges they face. Across Jordan, as in other countries, teachers work in an increasingly complex environment, responding to diverse learning needs, rapid digital transformation, and pressures linked to climate change and emergencies. Sustaining a strong teaching profession requires continued attention to teachers' working conditions, professional autonomy, career development, well-being and meaningful participation in decisions that affect their profession.

On this World Teachers' Day, the four organisations reaffirmed their commitment to working alongside the Government of Jordan and national partners to strengthen the teaching profession, support teachers' professional growth, well-being and status, and promote decent work, fair pay and equal opportunity.

To all teachers across Jordan: your dedication and professionalism continue to transform lives and shape a brighter future for generations to come.

Today, and every day, we stand with teachers. Investing in teachers is investing in Jordan's future.
