King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah visited the Aisha bint Abi Bakr Mixed Basic School in Aqaba on Sunday to mark World Teachers' Day, which falls on Monday.

The King and Queen met a number of male and female teachers and offered their congratulations on the occasion, affirming the status of teachers and their central role in the educational process, in character-building and in developing students' knowledge.
The royal couple toured the school's facilities to learn about the professional development programmes for teachers that the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development implements in cooperation with the Queen Rania Teacher Academy. Those programmes are delivered in public schools across the kingdom.
They observed part of the training sessions conducted under the Professional Diploma in Education and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Education programme. They also attended part of a kindergarten classroom session whose teachers had participated in the Professional Development Programme for Kindergarten Teachers.
The King and Queen spoke with teachers who had benefited from the training programmes about the impact on their teaching experience and practice. King Abdullah said that the outcomes of professional development programmes must be reflected in the quality of education.
Accompanying the royal couple during the visit were the Chief of the Royal Court, Engineer Alaa Batayneh; Minister of Education and Human Resources Development Dr Azmi Mahafzah; and the Chief Executive Officer of the Queen Rania Teacher Academy, Abdulmajeed Shammalawy.
