AMMAN — The Director of the Traffic Department at the Public Security Directorate (PSD) Brigadier. Gen Firas Al-Duwairi said Tuesday that the department will start using “drones” to monitor traffic congestion, and thus ensure better control of the traffic situation, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.اضافة اعلان

Duwairi said that drones alert operating rooms when there is a slowdown in traffic, respond quickly to calls about accidents and for ambulances, and monitor serious traffic violations that pose a threat to citizens’ lives.

He pointed out that the aim, when using drones, is to have a positive impact on traffic, and stressed the importance of partnering with citizens to ensure traffic safety.

The Traffic Department, he said, is keeping pace with all advanced technological traffic control methods, and that the use of drones will be an important step in the implementation of the strategic plan set by the department, informing operating rooms about locations that witness heavy traffic, especially at peak times, as well as those where traffic violations are registered.

In November 2019, PSD said that it had stopped using helicopters to monitor traffic until "further notice", and that they would be replaced by drones with surveillance cameras, when weather conditions are suitable.
