Social Expenditure Monitor (SEM) for Jordan launched

AMMAN—   On Thursday, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Finance launched the Social Expenditure Monitor (SEM) for Jordan, which was developed by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in partnership with several ministries and public institutions, according to Khaberni News.اضافة اعلان

 

A press release by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation indicated that the monitor is a tool for determining options for budget allocation and public spending to achieve the sustainable development goals.

 

Jordan is the first in the Arab region to launch this tool, which will contribute to improving the monitoring and managing social spending processes, and raising the efficiency and effectiveness of the public budget, according to the statement.

 

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Nasser Al-Shraideh, thanked ESCWA Secretary General Rola Dashti for the services provided by the ESCWA provides to the Jordanian government.

 

Shraideh stressed the importance that Jordan gives to the technical support to member states, which aims to speed up the growth and economic and social development processes within the framework of achieving sustainable development goals, expressing Jordan's constant aspiration to cooperate with ESCWA in economic and social priority fields.

 

Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance, the representative of the Minister of Finance, Abdul-Hakim Shebli, indicated that this monetary tool can support the strengths and weaknesses’ assessment in preparing budgets and fiscal policy options for the government.

 
Shibli stressed the importance of expanding the tool's scope to cover various general government expenditures in the future.
