Ramadan causes spike in demand for bread

AMMAN — Demand for bread increased by 50 percent on Saturday, according to Al-Rai daily.

Bakery Owners Syndicate President Abdul Ilah Hamawi said that the demand on bread and Ramadan-associated products increased drastically, and that bakeries witnessed a large turnout of people buying qatayef during the first day of Ramadan. اضافة اعلان

He said the increase in demand is normal and happens every year during the beginning of Ramadan.

Hamawi said that the price for qatayef for this year has not increased significantly, assuring that the recent reduction in sales tax will keep prices affordable.
