The Ministry of Public Works and Housing has completed maintenance work on the Al-Maghtas (Baptism Site) Road as part of a tender to maintain the stretch extending from the Al-Maghtas Junction to the edge of the tourist site toward the Dead Sea Road. This project forms part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency of vital roads and elevate traffic safety standards.

According to the ministry, the completed work involved milling the old, damaged asphalt layer, executing necessary patching, and applying a new layer of basaltic asphalt mixture over a total length of approximately 5 kilometers.
The project also included strengthening road safety elements by re-marking traffic lanes in white and yellow and installing road studs (cat's eyes). These measures aim to boost safety levels and improve traffic flow, particularly given the high volume of visitors and tourists traveling to the Baptism Site and the Dead Sea region.
The road maintenance comes in support of government efforts to develop the Baptism Site, upgrade surrounding infrastructure and services, and enhance the readiness of access roads in alignment with the site’s religious, historical, and tourism significance both locally and internationally.
The Baptism Site is one of the Kingdom's most prominent religious tourism destinations and is inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage list. The government is currently implementing a series of projects aimed at developing the site and its surrounding area, further consolidating Jordan’s standing as a primary global destination for religious tourism and Christian pilgrimage.
The ministry affirmed that these works fall within its comprehensive, routine plans to maintain and rehabilitate the road network across the Kingdom's governorates, ensure infrastructure sustainability, and raise the efficiency of key roadways to provide safe and smooth travel for citizens, visitors, and tourists.
