Jordan Allocates JD 171 Million for Bread Subsidies in 2026 Budget
Jordan’s Finance Minister Abdel Hakim Shibli announced that the 2026 general budget includes:

JD 171 million to subsidize bread and strategic commoditiesاضافة اعلان

JD 124 million for cancer treatment

JD 80 million to support domestic cooking gas cylinders

The minister highlighted that the real GDP is expected to grow by at least 2.9% in 2026, with nominal GDP growth projected at 5.4%, while inflation is expected to remain moderate at 2%.

He noted that global economic uncertainty due to trade tensions, protectionist measures, and geopolitical conflicts has disrupted supply chains and slowed global growth, with the IMF projecting world growth at 3.2% and global trade growth at 2.9% in 2025.

Key budget figures for 2026 include:

Total public revenues: JD 10.931 billion (JD 10.196 billion local revenues, JD 735 million foreign grants)

Current expenditures: JD 11.456 billion (+5.1% from 2025)

Capital expenditures: JD 1.6 billion (+16.8%)

Budget deficit after grants: JD 2.125 billion

Net government deficit: JD 671 million

The budget also allocates:

JD 396 million for the Economic Modernization Vision projects

JD 60 million for the National Water Carrier project

JD 35 million for Risha gas exploration

JD 210 million for municipal development

JD 80 million for public universities

JD 35 million for the Student Support Fund

Additionally, civilian and military salaries and pensions are increased by JD 274 million (4.3%), exceeding current inflation rates, as part of the government’s social support measures.
