Int’l press group calls for release of Syrian journalist

AMMAN­ — Reporters Without Borders (RSF) called on Tuesday, for the immediate release of Ibrahim Awwad, a Syrian freelance journalist based in Amman, who was arrested last week and is now threatened with being sent back to Syria.اضافة اعلان

“We call on the Jordanian authorities to release the journalist Ibrahim Awwad,” said Sabrina Bennoui, the head of RSF’s Middle East desk. “Under no circumstances should Amman become an accomplice to the direct persecution of a journalist whose critical reporting puts him in danger in his country of origin.”

Awwad has been based in Jordan since 2015, covering the war in Syria for several Arab TV channels. He recently announced on his Facebook account that he was preparing a TV program about Iranian influence in the Arab world and, in particular, in Deraa, in southern Syria near the border with Jordan.
