Government Launches Major Security Campaign to Curb Attacks on Water Lines
On Monday morning, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, through the Water Authority and the Internal Oversight Directorate, conducted a large-scale security operation in the Shuna Al-Janubiya area near Kafrein Dam to control and fill illegal wells and remove repeated violations affecting water sources. The campaign resulted in the filling of 11 illegal wells dug on state-owned land, which were illegally extracting thousands of cubic meters of water per hour to supply unauthorized farms and tanker sales via extended main pipelines.اضافة اعلان

The campaign was carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, the General Directorate of Public Security, including the West Balqa Police Department, Central Gendarmerie, Preventive Security, Criminal Investigation Department, Civil Defense, Royal Environmental Protection Directorate, the National Electricity Company, and the Energy Sector Regulatory Commission, alongside teams from the Internal Oversight Directorate, Water Basins Directorate, and Central Workshops Directorate.

The Water Authority explained that, based on available information, the operation was coordinated to raid the site on Monday morning, begin filling the illegal wells, and remove all unauthorized infrastructure supplying large farms through extended main pipelines.

Technical teams from the Central Workshops Directorate and Water Basins Directorate completed the filling of illegal wells and removal of all infrastructure, in coordination with the Energy Authority and National Electricity Company. This included dismantling main electricity lines connected to the wells, seizing four control panels and 700 meters of electrical cables, and disconnecting long unauthorized water pipelines. Violations were documented and referred to relevant authorities for legal proceedings.

The Water Authority confirmed that campaigns and efforts, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, General Directorate of Public Security, and other entities, will continue nationwide. Maximum penalties will be enforced against anyone tampering with water resources. The Authority also expressed appreciation for the strong support from the General Directorate of Public Security, particularly the West Balqa Police Department, Central Gendarmerie, officers, staff, and citizens reporting such violations.
