The Council for Iftaa’, Research, and Islamic Studies has estimated the value of Zakat al-Fitr for this year at 180 piastres (JD 1.80) per person. The Council also set the Fidya (compensation for missed fasting) for feeding a needy person at a minimum of one dinar (JD 1.00) for each day missed by those unable to fast due to old age or chronic illness.اضافة اعلان

In a statement released on Monday, the General Iftaa’ Department confirmed that this estimation is equivalent to the value of 2.5 kilograms of wheat, which is considered the staple food in Jordan. It emphasized that Zakat al-Fitr is an obligatory duty (Wajib), and anyone who chooses to give more than the specified amount will receive further reward from Allah.

The Department clarified that Zakat al-Fitr is a religious obligation for every Muslim who possesses enough food for themselves and their dependents on the day of Eid, with a surplus over their basic needs. It is paid on behalf of oneself and those for whom one is legally responsible for supporting.

While it is permissible to pay Zakat al-Fitr from the beginning of the month of Ramadan, the Department noted that the best time to perform it is between the sunset of the last day of Ramadan and the time of the Eid prayer.
