Death of Former Prime Minister Ahmad Obeidat
Former Prime Minister Ahmad Obeidat passed away on Monday evening at the age of 88.

The late Obeidat was born in 1938 in the village of Hartha, Bani Kinana District, Irbid Governorate. He held a law degree from the University of Baghdad.اضافة اعلان

During his career, he held several senior state positions, including:

1974–1982: Director of the General Intelligence Department.

1980–1984: Minister of Interior.

1984–1985: Prime Minister and Minister of Defense.

Member of the Senate since 1984 for various terms.

1990: United Nations Ambassador for Humanitarian Affairs.

He also chaired several national and environmental organizations, most notably the National Center for Human Rights and the Jordan Environment Society.

His funeral will take place in his hometown of Hartha in the Bani Kinana District after the noon prayer on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, from the Uthman bin Affan Mosque in Hartha.

Condolences for men will be received in Hartha on the day of burial and on Thursday and Friday, 5 and 6 February, and at the Amman Hall at the Sports City in Amman on Saturday and Sunday, 7 and 8 February, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Condolences for women will be received on the day of burial at Sheikh Qwaider Al-Sulaiman’s guesthouse in Hartha, and at Al-Naber Family Diwan in Amman on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 5, 6, and 7 February, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
