Baghdad summons Iraqi envoy to Amman

AMMAN — Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday that it summoned the Iraqi ambassador to Jordan, Haider Al-Adari, after pictures of the envoy and his wife with a Lebanese singer went viral on the Internet, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.اضافة اعلان

The ministry said it had followed “with interest” the photos which were shared in dozens of posts on social media platforms, where Iraqis and other Arabs castigated the envoy for violating diplomatic norms and conservative Arab traditions.

Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, a spokesperson for the Iraqi foreign ministry, confirmed in a statement that Adari arrived in Baghdad for consultations.

In a separate statement, the ministry said that it was “following the images of the ambassador which circulated on social media,” adding that it would “take appropriate measures in this regard as soon as possible, in a manner that enhances the values of Iraqi diplomacy.”
