Jordan's sky will be adorned next Friday evening with a distinctive astronomical phenomenon featuring an apparent conjunction between the Moon and Antares (the heart of the Scorpius constellation), in a sight that can be observed with the naked eye from various regions across the Kingdom.

President of the Jordanian Astronomical Society, Dr. Ammar Sakaji, stated that the Moon will appear close to Antares at an apparent angular separation of approximately 1.2 arcdegrees. This proximity will make them appear side-by-side in the sky throughout the night hours until they set after 1:45 AM on Saturday morning, with the period between 11:00 PM and setting time offering the optimal viewing window.
He explained that the Moon will be in a waxing gibbous phase with an illumination of approximately 73 percent, while Antares will shine in its distinctive red hue. He emphasized that a conjunction is a visual phenomenon resulting from the alignment of two celestial objects along the line of sight from Earth, and does not reflect actual proximity between them in space or carry any physical impact on Earth and its inhabitants.
Sakaji noted that the event can be easily viewed with the naked eye, while using binoculars or telescopes will allow observers to track additional details. He pointed out that the Moon will also pass near the open star cluster NGC 6231, adding special significance to the event for astronomy enthusiasts and astrophotographers.
