Border Guard units in the Eastern Military Zone brought down four guided balloons carrying narcotics in the early hours of Wednesday, seizing roughly half a million pills, the Jordanian Armed Forces said.اضافة اعلان

The balloons were tracked at separate points along one of the zone's border fronts and intercepted inside Jordanian territory, in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department. The seized narcotics have been handed to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings.

The military said the recurrence of such attempts, and the shifting methods behind them, would not deter Border Guard units, which continue monitoring the frontier around the clock.

Guided balloons have become a regular feature of smuggling into Jordan. The army intercepted ten simultaneous launches in February, describing them as timed together to confuse border units and evade detection, and foiled two further attempts on the eastern front in July.

Syrian authorities have made parallel seizures, including 75 balloons and more than two million captagon pills from a group in February, and a GPS-equipped balloon consignment in July launched from the Daraa countryside.
