Maj. Gen. Majdi Mohammad Al-Harasis, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, visited a Border Guard battalion in the Northern Military Zone on Wednesday and told its personnel that operational readiness remains the priority in protecting the Kingdom's frontiers.

Al-Harasis inspected the 12th Royal Border Guard Battalion, part of the 2nd Border Guard Brigade, where the zone commander received him. He was briefed on the battalion's duties and on its operational, training and logistical work, along with programmes intended to raise combat efficiency.
The visit included a display of the weapons, vehicles and equipment the border units use, with an explanation of how each is deployed along the border fronts.
Al-Harasis pressed for continued development of professionalism and capability across the force, in line with the demands placed on border units. Closing the visit, he conveyed the greetings of King Abdullah II, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and commended the troops on their discipline and their record in protecting the border.
The visit falls in Al-Harasis's second week in the post. He was appointed by royal decree effective September 2, succeeding Gen. Yousef Huneiti, who retired after seven years, and was promoted from brigadier general on the same date. He had led military intelligence since August 2022, where his responsibilities included border protection and countering infiltration and smuggling.
Senior officers accompanied him on the visit.
