According to Jordanian law, a patent refers to any innovative idea developed by an inventor in any technical field, relating to a product, a manufacturing method, or both, and providing a solution to a specific problem in that field.

The patent registration process involves all procedures related to patent applications, starting with guiding inventors on how to file a patent and ending with the issuance of the final certificate. This process includes technical and formal evaluations to ensure that applications meet all legal requirements, as well as procedures that serve third-party public interests—such as publication in the official gazette and access to public records.

As for a trademark, it is defined as any visible sign used or intended to be used by a person to distinguish their goods, products, or services from those of others.
