Ingredients for Pasta Flora
To prepare Pasta Flora, you will need:
2½ cups of flour
200 grams of butter, at room temperature
½ cup of powdered sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 teaspoon of baking powder
A pinch of salt
1 cup of apricot, strawberry or fig jam, according to preference
1 egg yolk mixed with 1 teaspoon of milk for brushing the top (optional)
How to Prepare Pasta Flora
Start by beating the butter and sugar until the mixture becomes light and creamy. Add the egg and vanilla and continue mixing until all the ingredients are well incorporated.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and a pinch of salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture until a soft, cohesive dough forms.
Divide the dough into two portions, reserving about one-quarter of the dough for decorating the top. Press the larger portion into a tart pan or baking tray, slightly raising the edges.
Spread the jam evenly over the dough. Roll out the remaining dough and cut it into strips, then arrange the strips in a crisscross pattern over the jam. Brush the top with the egg-yolk and milk mixture to give it a golden color after baking.
Finally, bake the Pasta Flora in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for 30–40 minutes, or until the surface turns golden brown.
Allow it to cool completely before slicing and serving.
