Ingredients:

2½ cups flour

1 tablespoon instant yeast

3 tablespoons sugar

½ teaspoon salt

¾ cup warm milk

1 egg

3 tablespoons softened butter

100 g cold butter for laminating

100 g chopped chocolate or chocolate pieces

1 egg for brushing

Method:
Mix the flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Add the milk, egg and softened butter, then knead until a smooth dough forms.

Cover the dough and let it rest for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Roll the dough into a rectangle. Place the cold butter in the center and fold the dough over it.

Roll out the dough and fold it several times to create flaky layers, refrigerating it between each stage.

Cut the dough into rectangles, place one or two pieces of chocolate inside each, and roll them up tightly.

Arrange the croissants on a baking tray and leave them to rest and rise.

Brush the tops with beaten egg, then bake in a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F) for 15–20 minutes, until golden brown.

Serve the chocolate croissants warm with coffee or milk.
