Health Benefits of Pears... and When Do They Become Unsuitable for the Body?

According to her, pears are a fruit rich in fiber, pectin, flavonoids, vitamins, and trace elements. Fiber improves bowel function and helps prevent constipation, while pectin contributes to eliminating excess cholesterol. Additionally, the sorbitol found in pears supports liver function, stimulates bile secretion, and exerts a mild laxative effect.

The expert noted that pears also contain copper, silicon, cobalt, potassium, and folate, as well as a small amount of iodine. They also contain arbutin, a natural compound with antiseptic properties that may help limit bacterial growth in the urinary tract.

However, the expert warned against eating pears on an empty stomach, as their fiber and organic acids can irritate the gastric mucosa. Furthermore, individuals with gastritis accompanied by high acidity, stomach ulcers, and acute pancreatitis should avoid consuming raw pears.

She added that individuals with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) accompanied by diarrhea should consume pears with caution, whereas those suffering from constipation may benefit from incorporating this fruit into their diet.

The expert continued that consuming pears alongside meat, milk, or legumes may cause fermentation, bloating, and gas in some individuals. She also advised people prone to blood clotting against overconsuming astringent pear varieties due to their high tannin content, recommending instead the selection of ripe, aromatic, and undamaged pears.

According to her, firm pears can be left at room temperature for two to three days to ripen. She highlighted that the fruit offers the greatest benefit when eaten with its skin, with the optimal amount being one to two pears per day. As for individuals advised against eating raw pears, they can consume them baked.
